Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high. Where knowledge is free. Where the world has not been broken up into fragments. By narrow domestic walls. Where words come out from the depth of truth. Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection. Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit. Where the mind is led forward by thee. Into ever-widening thought and action. Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

When Love arrive on you doorstep it is possible that Love do not look as you have imagined.

No manbunn or perfect eyeliner but instead breases and freckles that makes you smile.

When Love arrives on your doorstep you might be surprised but you can also be terrified.

Because Love is not the one people expect you to fall in love with.

Instead Love is your best friend in your all girl basketball team and not the next door boy.

The one your mother never stops talking about.

This brings me to Jane. Making her way home after choir practice. Leaving Kampala Church of

Christ on Berekely Road. As Jane waves to the store owner of ”Miracle House of electronics and

furniture” her sister is facing a mob of angry men who is demanding her to tell them where Jane is.

Janes sister is killed. Jane has to flee.

The street corners she has known since she was a toddler,

before choir practice,

before Kampala Church

before Miracle House,

since when she was yay high,

has become hunting ground.

A year later she find herself in a strange country, answering questions like

”How can you prove you are gay?”

When the government takes all you have,

When they try to erase who are,

I will call you by your true name;

When the quiet is strangling,

And the little faith you have left is taking its last breath

I will march for you.

I will carry your story with me,

An celebrate the love you once held.

Jane, I see you.
